Tabanan

Rice terraces & sea temples

Bali's rice bowl, Tabanan is a patchwork of UNESCO-listed terraces, the sea temple of Tanah Lot and the cool slopes of Mount Batukaru.

Tabanan is Bali's agricultural heartland, where the ingenious subak irrigation system carves emerald terraces into the hillsides. The Jatiluwih rice fields here are UNESCO World Heritage listed.

On the coast sits Tanah Lot, the island's most photographed sea temple, perched on a rock that becomes an island at high tide. Inland, Mount Batukaru offers cool air, jungle treks and one of Bali's most serene temples.
