1. Understand the Types of Visas
Before applying, familiarize yourself with the different types of visas available for Bali:
- Tourist Visa (Visa on Arrival – VoA): Most travelers can get a VoA at the airport upon arrival. It’s valid for 30 days and can be extended once for an additional 30 days.
- Social/Cultural Visa (B-211): This visa allows you to stay up to 60 days and can be extended for another 30 days. It requires sponsorship from an Indonesian citizen or a legal entity.

2. Prepare Required Documents
Regardless of the visa type, you’ll need the following documents:
- Passport: Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your arrival date.
- Flight Itinerary: Show proof of your return or onward flight.
- Accommodation Details: Provide hotel reservations or an address where you’ll stay.
- Sponsorship Letter (for Social/Cultural Visa)**: If applying for a B-211 visa, obtain a sponsorship letter from your sponsor in Indonesia.
- Business Documents (for Business Visa): If applying for a B-211A or B-211B visa, prepare relevant business documents.
3. Arriving in Bali
a. Visa on Arrival (VoA)
- Arrival: When you land at Ngurah Rai International Airport (Denpasar), proceed to the VoA counter.
- Payment: Pay the VoA fee (around $35 USD) in cash (USD or IDR).
- Immigration: Fill out the arrival card and proceed to immigration.
- Stamping: The immigration officer will stamp your passport with the VoA.
b. Social/Cultural or Business Visa
- Apply in Advance: Apply for the B-211 visa at an Indonesian embassy or consulate in your home country.
- Approval: Once approved, you’ll receive a visa sticker in your passport.
- Arrival: Upon arrival, proceed to immigration and show your visa sticker.
4. Extending Your Stay
a. VoA Extension
- Visit Immigration Office: Visit the local immigration office at least one week before your visa expires.
- Requirements: Bring your passport, a copy of your flight ticket, and the extension fee (around $35 USD).
- Extension: Extend your visa for another 30 days.
b. Social/Cultural or Business Visa Extension
- Visit Immigration Office: Visit the immigration office with your sponsor.
- Requirements: Provide necessary documents (sponsorship letter, passport, etc.).
- Extension: Extend your visa for an additional 30 days.
5. Leaving Bali
Before leaving Bali, ensure you’ve extended your visa if needed. Overstaying can result in fines or deportation.
